Fantastic Thanksgiving break

Mon Nov 30, 2009, 1:10 PM
No classes for a week, lots of epic movies coming out, and of course Turkey Day made last week fun.

Saw New Moon on Tuesday. I won't dawdle on this, as the only worthwhile part of this movie was seeing Jacob Black explode into a werewolf. And seeing the results of working out with a guy who trained the "300" crew of Spartans. Lautner's going places, lemme tell ya - he just needs to find some better roles.

Saw Ninja Assassin on Wednesday. DO NOT go into that movie expecting anything other than a bloodbath, 'cause that's all your gonna get. The plot makes little difference, this movie is an hour and forty minutes of action and gore content that makes Saw look semi-tame. I enjoyed it wholesomely, of course.

Thanksgiving - turkey, football, pumpkin pie, what more do ya want?

Saw Fantastic Mr. Fox on Saturday. That was a movie worth seeing. First the fails - several shots are close-ups of the characters. Since the puppets had to be repositioned for every shot and the handlers couldn't help touching the fur, there's some erratic fur jumping sometimes, but you'll probably be so focused on the plot you'll be able to forgive that. On the positive side, the movie is an hour and a half of very well-done stop-motion animation. The story is very humorous, and there were enough inside jokes to keep my brother going "Huh?" and my dad and I in stitches. George Clooney is a great Mr. Fox, but Jason Schwartzman as his son Ash takes my vote for best character - he has several dry, scathingly sarcastic jokes that are hilarious. Another of the best conversations is between Mrs. Fox (played by Meryl Streep) and a rat played by Willem Defoe. I won't spoil it, but know this: the tale has some surprisingly dark tinges to it. But speaking broadly, you won't be disappointed. It's definitely on my favorite movies of 2009 list, and probably on my all-time faves list.

That's all peeps. I'm out. Oh, but I am going to work on an entry for the War Machine Tournament. Wish me luck.
